The revision platform trusted by 3,000+ students

Notes, quizzes and reports that tell you what to revise next. All in one place, from £10/month.

There are so many A Level Psychology revision resources, but which ones are the best? You’re looking for solutions that give you named studies you can describe accurately, evaluation you can build into long-form essays, and lots of research methods practice.

If you’re sitting AQA A Level Psychology in summer 2027, check one thing before anything else: is your revision resource updated for the 2025 specification? AQA revised the course for first teaching in September 2025, and 2027 is the first A Level exam series on the new version. Psychopathology is now Clinical Psychology and Mental Health, the Gender option has been extensively rewritten, and some content has been removed. Plenty of popular notes, books and practice papers still cover the old specification.

This guide covers the main options for 2027, including free resources, online platforms, textbooks and revision guides. For each, we say who it suits, what it costs and whether it’s been updated for the new specification. We run Study Dog, so we’ve included it too. We’ve tried to be straight about where other resources are the better fit.

The updated AQA specification

AQA A Level Psychology (7182) is three 2-hour papers, each worth 96 marks and a third of the A Level:

  • Paper 1, Introductory topics: social influence, memory, attachment, and clinical psychology and mental health
  • Paper 2, Psychology in context: approaches, biopsychology, and research methods
  • Paper 3, Issues and options: issues and debates, plus one topic from each of three option groups

The option groups are:

  1. Relationships, gender, or cognition and development
  2. Schizophrenia, eating behaviour, or stress
  3. Aggression, forensic psychology, or addiction

Download the September 2025 version of the specification from AQA’s website, not an older copy, and tick topics off as you go.

Past papers and mark schemes

Past papers from 2017–2025 are still excellent practice, but they were written for the old specification. Skip or adapt questions on content that has been removed. For example, you no longer need to write an essay on Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment as evidence for conformity to social roles. AQA’s updated specimen papers are the only full papers written for the new content.

We’ve gathered every available paper on our A Level Psychology past papers page.

Research methods practice

Research methods is the most heavily weighted area of the A Level. It’s tested directly in Paper 2, and methods, maths and data questions appear across all three papers. Do a few short research methods questions every week to stay on top of things.

Study Dog free resources

Our free Psychology resources include past papers and grade boundaries, with no account needed.

Online revision platforms

Choose a platform on three things: whether it’s written for the 2025 specification, whether it gets you writing 16-mark essays, and whether it builds research methods skills rather than just notes.

Study Dog

AQA 2025 specification, from £7.50/month

Study Dog’s Psychology course was written for the updated specification. It covers every compulsory topic and all nine option topics, so it works whichever options your school teaches. Each topic comes in several formats:

  • Course notes and audio notes
  • Flashcards and quizzes with instant feedback
  • Practice papers to see how the new exams feel.
  • Simulators, which let you practise applying psychological theories and research the way they’re examined
  • Reports, which use your quiz results and progress to tell you what to revise next
  • StudyBot, an AI tutor that answers questions using only Study Dog’s Psychology content and points you back to the right lesson

Best for: students who want notes, practice and progress tracking in one place, and who revise better with variety.
