If you’re sitting AQA A Level Psychology in summer 2027, check one thing before anything else: is your revision resource updated for the 2025 specification? AQA revised the course for first teaching in September 2025, and 2027 is the first A Level exam series on the new version. Psychopathology is now Clinical Psychology and Mental Health, the Gender option has been extensively rewritten, and some content has been removed. Plenty of popular notes, books and practice papers still cover the old specification.

The updated AQA specification
AQA A Level Psychology (7182) is three 2-hour papers, each worth 96 marks and a third of the A Level:
- Paper 1, Introductory topics: social influence, memory, attachment, and clinical psychology and mental health
- Paper 2, Psychology in context: approaches, biopsychology, and research methods
- Paper 3, Issues and options: issues and debates, plus one topic from each of three option groups
The option groups are:
- Relationships, gender, or cognition and development
- Schizophrenia, eating behaviour, or stress
- Aggression, forensic psychology, or addiction
Download the September 2025 version of the specification from AQA’s website, not an older copy, and tick topics off as you go.
Past papers and mark schemes
Past papers from 2017–2025 are still excellent practice, but they were written for the old specification. Skip or adapt questions on content that has been removed. For example, you no longer need to write an essay on Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment as evidence for conformity to social roles. AQA’s updated specimen papers are the only full papers written for the new content.
