The results show a relative stability in the grade boundaries between 2024 and 2025. The general pass rate has increased slightly, by roughly 0.5%, while the number of students receiving the top A* grade has fallen by 0.2%.

The boundaries are consistent with pre-COVID levels, with roughly 44% of students receiving an A* or A grade in their EPQ. We can expect general stability in the grade boundaries moving forward, as they have fallen from their COVID-era peak, whereby roughly 25% of students received an A* in their EPQ submission.

In the above data sets, the figures in black are the number of raw marks (out of 50). The figures in red is the overall percentage needed to achieve that grade.

For the most recent exams in 2025, the EPQ Grade Boundaries have maintained their level for the third consecutive year. This means that the boundaries have retained their stability from before the pandemic. We can safely assume that next year’s grade boundaries won’t move by more than one mark either up or down.

This makes it more crucial than ever to ensure you know the marking criteria for your extended project. Understanding what you need to include in your project log, and how you need to present your project at the end of the process is vital to unlock the higher marks. With an A* at 90% of the total marks, you can only afford to drop 5 marks to achieve the top grade, or 10 marks to achieve an A.
